Travelers Advantage Moves Up Travel Weekly Power List

Ranks 9th among Leisure Travel Firms, 24th overall
NORWALK, Conn., July 22, 2008 - Travelers Advantage, a leading national travel company, moved up a spot in the top 10 among leisure travel agencies in the 2008 Travel Weekly Power List, a prestigious annual ranking that selects the top 50 companies in the travel industry based on total annual sales revenue.

Travelers Advantage ranked No. 9 in leisure travel - and came in at No. 24 overall - sharing the spotlight with such industry luminaries as American Express, Expedia, Travelocity, AAA Travel, Orbitz and Priceline.  Last year, the company placed No. 10 among leisure agencies, and No. 19 overall.

There are more than 20,000 agencies in the $1.3 trillion travel and tourism industry.*

Travel Weekly, in the cover story introducing the list, said, “While most of the Power List companies are business-oriented, many of the largest focus on leisure.  Among those traditional leaders were STA Travel, Travel Acquisitions Group, Travelers Advantage, AAA and Liberty.”

“We are honored to be chosen for this esteemed list of the biggest and best companies in the travel industry,” said Leslie Downey, director of Travelers Advantage and TravelersAdvantage.com.  “As we begin our 23rd year in business - offering members great service at great rates - this ranking continues to build our brand in the marketplace.”

Since 1985, Travelers Advantage has established itself on the leading edge of the leisure travel market in the United States, serving millions of members, and delivering millions in cash bonuses to travelers worldwide.
“As a leading travel company, with leisure being our core business, we are pleased to have solidified our Top 10 leisure standing in this year’s Power List,” said Tom Rusin, president and CEO of parent Affinion Group North America.  “For nearly 25 years we have offered a valuable travel club solution that saves members money in a simple, user-friendly environment that allows them to book travel whichever way they prefer, online or via telephone - a major consumer preference over the years.”

Travel and Tourism generates $1.3 trillion in economic activity in the U.S. every year, according to the Travel Industry Association of America. That equates to $3.4 billion a day, $148 million an hour, $2.4 million a minute and $40,000 a second.  There were 1.16 billion person trips (one person traveling 50 miles - one way or more away from home and/or overnight) in 2005, and a full 81 percent of those trips were for leisure travel.  Top travel activities are shopping, attending social and/or family event and outdoor activities.
