Affinion Security Center Announces Enhancements to ID Secure, a Premier ID Theft Protection Service

Improved ID Theft Tool Helps Arm Consumers Against Increasingly Sophisticated Types of Theft

Norwalk, Conn., June 4, 2008 -Affinion Security Center, a division of Affinion Group, Inc. that provides more than five million consumers with identity theft protection, detection and resolution services, announced today that it has increased the security and protection features of ID Secure, a cornerstone of the Affinion Security Center suite.

ID Secure is a next-generation identity theft solution that helps members monitor, detect and resolve the rapidly growing crime of identity theft. The enhancements are designed to help prevent increasingly sophisticated identity thefts.

Complementing the existing benefits in the ID Secure arsenal, the service now includes enhanced features such as increased access to public records to monitor for any criminal activity committed in a member's name, and a more robust data sweep of Internet data, including monitoring of underground chat rooms. Each enhanced feature is designed to address the greatest identity theft threats facing consumers today.

Unfortunately, identity theft no longer means that a thief simply makes fraudulent charges to a person's credit or debit card accounts," said Tom Rusin, president and CEO of Affinion Group North America. "Thieves continue to get more creative, and through an increasing use of technology, are targeting new aspects of a consumer's identity. Consumer’s need technological solutions, and with the latest enhancements to ID Secure we believe that we can give consumers the best protection, detection and resolution possible against the many different types of identity theft.

ID Secure includes proprietary technology and expertise from Affinion's CardCops division which alerts members if the service detects their personal data has been compromised and is being traded in the criminal cyber underground. Now CardCops can also monitor for a member's Social Security number, in addition to monitoring for credit and debit card numbers. It is critical to monitor for Social Security number exposure because many different types of fraud can be committed with this information.

To supplement CardCops' monitoring of personal information online, ID Secure includes a public records search of your name and physical address which culls data from billions of public records and more than 5,000 individual data sources. Members now receive quarterly updates and alerts if there are new criminal records, bankruptcies, liens and judgments associated with their identity. This service is critical to providing early detection if a criminal has assumed a victim's identity when they are charged with a crime. If this occurs without the victim's knowledge, there is the danger that the next time they are stopped for a routine traffic violation an arrest warrant could be produced in their name. With ID Secure, members can uncover thefts of this type and potentially contain the damage to their reputation.

ID Secure's DataSweep provides another layer of identity theft protection and detection. DataSweep is an automated "sweep" of top internet directories and web search engines for members' personal contact information such as phone number and address and is now performed every two weeks for all members. A vast amount of personal information can be found online and it can be difficult for a person to monitor all of the different websites that contain such data. DataSweep gives members more control over their personal information by alerting them to where it is posted and whether it can be removed. It also now includes more robust deletion capabilities at the top internet directories.

Sorting through the many sources of personal information can be confusing, creating the possibility that a consumer may overlook important changes in their files. To meet this need, ID Secure provides a personalized fraud protection dashboard that allows members to track important activities associated with their identity at one secure internet location.

Should an ID Secure member detect that their identity has been compromised in some way, they have access to a dedicated identity theft resolution specialist who can walk the member through the process of resolving the fraud and restoring their good name. ID Secure's highly-trained fraud resolution specialists have an average of five years of experience handling these types of cases. Unlike other identity theft recovery services, ID Secure members do not have to relinquish their autonomy by giving power of attorney to a third party to receive this assistance.

Along with assistance from a dedicated fraud resolution specialist, members also receive protection from an identity theft insurance policy with no deductible.* While consumers are usually not liable for fraudulent debit and credit card activity, they can find themselves facing costs associated with re-filing for loans, grants or other types of credit that are rejected as a result of the identity theft. They can also lose wages from the time required to re-establish their identity or incur legal costs.

ID Secure is just one of the leading-edge fraud protection services in the Affinion Security Center service group. Affinion provides enterprises and government agencies with the BreachShield service, while consumers can also rely on PrivacyGuard, CardCops, PC SafetyPlus and Hotline to help them protect against, detect and resolve identity theft.
